The panthers have the future of their centre core set for the next 10-15 years. Barkov will most likely be the #1. And it will be an ongoing entertaining battle for the 2nd line slot between bjukstad and trocek. The panthers are really set up the middle

Do you Panthers' fans see Huberdeau as a permanent winger?

Yes as long as Barkov shows he can be a #1 center.

don't forget about Shore he was pretty good last season. As I see it, it's Barkov then between bjugstad and trocheck. But Shore could push one to the wing.

If you can get quality goaltending from Clemmer and Markstrom this team can make some noise.

I don't see the opening night roster looking like that.
It'll most likely be:

Flash-Matthias-Kopecky(until Versteeg is back)
Huberdeau-Barkov-Upshall
Bergy-Goc-Howden
Shore-Gomez-Butler/Crabb/Bjugstad

Unless Tallon brings in any more players ..i.e. Raymond or Mueller, I see something similar to this lineup come start of the season. Obviously this all depends on camp and pre-season but I see Upshall getting one more crack at top 6 to see what he can do(unless traded before-hand) or even rotate him with Bergy on that 2nd line.

I would also like to see Tallon bring in someone else at goal. Either Thomas or even Dipietro for a year or two to backup Marky. I think Thomas would be a good mentor to Marky and Thomas knows how to win a Cup.

I too, see this team being competitive right till the end(as long as we aren't an injury prone team like last season) We have a lot of vets who are still useful and have won the big dance, as well as we have youth with tons of potential and the hunger for success. I know most are counting us out but I don't think this team is much different than the SE champs team minus Weiss and Garrison. I'll miss Weiss, but I think if we can stay healthy, and our top youth actually produce like we all hope they will, then I see us making the post season.

I think bjukstad is a definite centre if anyone moved it would be shore or trocek, and between those 2 I think it would be trocek

I think trocheck will definitely play this season and will be contending for the calder if he is givwn the ice time.. I project this to be the starting lline-up without versteeg.

Huberdeau Barkov Bergenheim

Fleischmanm Matthias Kopecky

Shore Gomez Trocheck

Howden Goc Bjugstad

What do you guys think our defense pairs will look like?

I don't see those lines.
Flash has been our best scorer since he's been here,so I think he'll be on first line. I wouldn't mind putting Flash on the right side and let Hubby stay on the left but for now #1 is Flash, then Hubby. Barkov on #1 line right out of the gate won't happen unless he truly outplays all other centers, so I think Matthias starts as #1. I am sure Upshall will be top 9, unfortunately unless he gets traded. Switch Goc and Gomez. I'd also rather see Howden,Trocheck, and Bjugstad start in the AHL and tear it up there then get minimal ice time and stunt their growth. We have Crabb and Butler who we can put on the 4th line. I wouldn't mind seeing Bjugstad,Howden, and Trocheck earn spots on the roster and start to blossom because I am excited to see what they can bring, but I just don't want to see them stuck on the 4th line with no ice time and then get bounced back and forth from NHL to AHL with no real consistant flow to develop confidence and progression.

I wouldn't let Rick DiPietro hand out towels in my locker room for a year or two. Come on man, give us a break here!

Our defense seems kinda week..id go with :

Campbell - kulikov
Jovo - gudbranson
Robak - petrovic

Weaver

He deserves to get a good look this preseason. He can win a spot over Howden.

Flash is one of the best players on this team. There's no way he drops off the top line.

I don't know what I was thinking when I posted that. I was trying to figure out who would better than Clemmer and he and Thomas were the only two that came to mind. With Clemmer in net, we have a 90% of losing! There aren't many free agent goalies out there. Theo, Garon, Mason, and Boucher are the only ones left,I think and I can't see Tallon trading for another goalie unless it's to get rid of Clemmer and someone not as important for a proven goalie who could mentor Markstrom.

If Kulikov and Gudbranson can stay healthy and finally live up to their potential, then I think we'll have a strong D. Not crazy strong, but strong enough. As well as having Petro and Robak continue their growth,Jovo staying healthy and actually being useful and I actually like Weaver. Weaver isn't the biggest or strongest, but he's the man behind the scenes. He does the little things that people don't normally notice, and those things make a difference.

I realize that the Panthers are compiling a good deal of young depth at center, and that it might be a numbers game with Trocheck, but the kid is the real deal. I saw him play with Plymouth around 10 times last year, and the kid does everything well. He has great vision, passes the puck really well, very good shot, kills penalties, and perhaps most important, he's a leadership type player. He reminds me alot of Derek Stepan with the Rangers, in that he might not have the Superstar measurables, but he has very good talent, and his hockey IQ is off the charts. I am perhaps a little bias, because he was one of my favorite players on the OHL level, but you guys are very lucky to have him. At worst, he could turn out to be an excellent trade chip.

One potential con, is tha the might have to get a little bit stronger.

I would actually like to see him make the squad. From what I keep hearing, as well as your comments, it would be wonderful to see what this kid has to offer. I guess anything is possible once camp opens up. If Shore,Howden,Bjugstad, and Trocheck happen to beat out the likes of Crabb,Gomez, Butler and anyone else for a roster spot, well good for them and I can't wait to see them make the squad.

I think most would agree with you. If he was over 6 foot he would have spot on the team before Bjugstad IMO. Unless he lights up pro camp I would hope he plays a little in the AHL and force his way on the team like shore did.

so what if he's under 6 feet tall? That makes no sense at all to me. Trocheck will be on the Panthers this season, whether it be to start or to fill in for someone who gets hurt. We all know how soft this team is, someone will go down and he'll get an opportunity to play.

Try rereading my post again. Didn't say he wouldn't make the team this year. I said if he was that tall he would be first in line over bjugstad.

who ever said Barkov was going to end up on the 1st line? Making the team yes, but I doubt he starts on the top line. That's something that needs to be earned.

Yes!!! another year when the Florida Panthers start their season with their captain on IR!!! It's their 20th season in the NHL and they probably hold the record for the most years without a captain. Congrats!

two things.
#1. Just how many seasons have the Panthers started a season with an injuried Captain? Every year that we've had a captain, they've been here to start the season. Not to mention, with the piss-poor managment this team has had over the years leading up to Tallon taking over, is it really surprising that we haven't had a real captain? Name a player who's been here long enough? Matthias?

#2. I get it now. I know exactly who you are. You are Mike Keenan. There is no other explaination. You are bitter over the fact that when you took over the club, you completely turned the organization into toliet dirt. Now that we have a real GM with real talent in the pipeline and a decent roster, with a real formula for success, you're bitter. Seriously, you obsess about the Panthers more than the die-est of diehard fans do. I've never seen someone more passionate about the Panthers and who claim to know more than you do about the team, and I can't believe a person would spend so much time hating a team unless they are secretly obsessed.
